Kathy Gehrt visits Sequim

I’m a little slow on this post but wanted to share with all of you what a great time I had with Kathy Gehrt a few weeks ago when she came to visit with me here in Sequim. We spent the afternoon talking and touring my greenhouses and fields. I know many of you may be familiar with Kathy as the author of Discover Cooking with Lavender or have heard her speak at a conference in your area or read one of her articles but have you visited her website yet? www.discoverlavender.com I highly recommend it to anyone interested in lavender. It’s an awesome site – full of tips, tasty recipes and interviews with interesting people in all phases of the lavender industry. (You can even read about me!)

Since I’m a lavender grower, not a writer, my posts are usually short and sweet but I do hope you will take the time to read some of her blogs and be sure to order a copy of her cookbook which you can find here http://victorslavender.com/store/home-and-gifts/. And for the culinary timid – go ahead – live dangerously – Discover Cooking with Lavender!

Thanksgiving Day Breakfast Idea

November 21st, 2012 by victor

Culinary LavenderHere’s an idea for breakfast on Thanksgiving (or any day) – Banana Blueberry Muffins with Lavender. Found it on allrecipes.com. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/banana-blueberry-muffins-with-lavender/detail.aspx. The recipe was contributed by Suzanne Hale and she says “These muffins are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. The lavender gives the flavor a slightly fresher taste, bringing out the vibrancy of the blueberries. You’ve got to try it! Serve warm with soft butter, if desired.”
Here’s an idea for the bird found on Country Living. It’s called ‘Provencal Rub for Roast Turkey’ http://www.countryliving.com/recipefinder/provencal-rub-turkey-seasoning-recipe

Speaking of tasty recipes, I had an opportunity to spend some time with Kathy Gehrt this past week at the Ontario Lavender Conference. She authored the book Discover Cooking with Lavender. I’ve been looking through it and it’s full great recipes. I’m particularly looking forward to trying her Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Garlic and Herb Crust. Makes me hungry just thinking about it. This is one book you should have in your kitchen library.

Hope all of you have a Great Thanksgiving.
